Hotel Agassiz is built.

Architect: West & Rand. It is located at 191 Commonwealth Avenue. The hotel is built as both a home and an investment property by Maj. Henry Lee Higginson and is named for his wife Ida, the daughter of Harvard zoologist Louis Agassiz. The building contains one large apartment on each floor. Higginson is an occupant until his death here in 1919. Robert Hale Ives Gammell and Edwin O’Connor (1967-68) are subsequent occupants.
